History of the space
“There are few more cheerful sights, when the evenings are long and the weather dull, than a handsome, well-lighted billiard room…” — Jr, 1889.
When the Midland Grand first opened, billiards was a popular pastime among the upper classes. The hotel featured a dedicated billiard room where gentlemen could play while their partners relaxed in the Ladies’ Smoking Room. A staff member was assigned solely to keep score, earning ten pence a week plus tips.
Now, the Billiard room serves as a stylish meeting or dining space for 10–12 guests, retaining its historic charm (42 sqm).
